EPANET - Water Quality Analysis - Water Quality Sources

Water quality sources are nodes where the quality of external flow entering the network is specified. They can represent major treatment works, a wellhead or satellite treatment facility, or an unwanted contaminant intrusion. The source quality can vary over time by assigning it a time standard. EPANET can model the following types of sources:

• A concentration source fixes the concentration of any external inflow entering the network at a node, such as flow from a reservoir or from a negative demand placed at a junction
• A source of mass reinforcement adds a fixed mass flow to the one that enters the node from other points in the network
• A setpoint boost source fixes the concentration of any flow leaving the node (as long as the resulting concentration of all inflow to the node is below the setpoint)

• A paced flow booster source adds a fixed concentration to that resulting from mixing all inflow to the node from other points in the network

Concentration type font is best used for nodes representing water supply sources or treatment works (for example, reservoirs or nodes assigned to a negative demand). The booster type source is best used for modeling the direct injection of an additional tracer or disinfectant into the network or for modeling a contaminant intrusion.
